RiserTeQ Fire Sprinkler valve set designs are tested to the highest quality standards; Quality focus is an on-going process to ensure that the product matches our innovative designs.
What is a R&D Fire Sprinkler valve set key components ?
Fire Sprinkler Riser Valve Manifold: Residential (RMR) or Domestic (DMR) is a forged Brass manifold designed and produced to incorporate several components whilst reducing the amount of leak paths. All RiserTeQ valve sets are what is known as ‘Dual Port Valve Set’ meaning that the flow switch can be installed in either the left or righthand position. This manifold also contains an Inlet Ball Valve, used to stop the water to the Fire Sprinkler system once the Fire Services are active in a live case. This inlet ball valve must be a lockable design and for BS 9251:2021 Cat 1 system the Valve Set has a unique handle design to be operated from the Front and drastically reduces the operating length of the Fire Sprinkler Valve. For Cat 2, Cat 3 and Cat 4 Residential Fire Sprinkler applications the RMR Residential Riser can come with a Ball Valve monitor, see below. The fire sprinkler valve system advantages are that it incorporates many components and still be as compact as possible and also not to induce any unnecessary pressure loss.
Water Flow Switch: A Fire Sprinkler water flow switch is a device which detects the movement of water with a paddle protruding into the main flow. When the sprinkler head is activated, then the water movement enables the Fire Sprinkler Flow Switch to send a signal to the alarm panel. The design of the Flow Switch should have a Pressure Loss below 0.2bar at maximum flow rate. The SIKA Water Flow switch works with moving magnets to eliminate leak paths and also to stop switching points changing over time it also has the advantage of being very low pressure loss. Bellows type Water Flow Switches are much larger in design and have a weakness that the bellows themselves can corrode and therefore changing the switching setpoint or worst still, cause a leak inside the Flow Alarm head which triggers a false alarm or damage to the building. The switching point for the SIKA Fire Sprinkler flow switch is set to activate at the minimum anticipated flow rate within a sprinkler head, with low flow heads this can be around 30L/min. Water Flow Switches for Fire Sprinkler applications in the UK and also in Europe must meet EN 12259-5 and then certified for CE or UKCA by a notified body due to Fire Sprinkler products being governed by the Construction Product Regulation (CPR product) where a harmonised code exists. It is not possible to self-certify a Fire Sprinkler Flow Switch to CE or UKCA. The flow switch on the RiserTeQ ‘Dual Port Valve Set’ models are connected with a O-ring which sits in a grove machined into the ”Dual Port Valve Set’, this gives added assurance for leak resistance to the clients. SIKA VKF Flow Alarms have been tested and certified by a notified body to CE and UKCA according to EN 12259-5 along with Loss Prevention Certified Body (LPCB) and also WRAS (Drinking Water Approval).
Pressure Gauge:RiserTeQ fire sprinkler pressure gauges are fully Stainless Steel (including the bourdon tube) to ensure they are robust and fit for purpose in the Domestic and Residential Fire Sprinkler application. According to BS EN 837-1 they are class 1.6 accuracy and capable of showing 16bar to allow for commissioning and pressure testing the Fire Sprinkler system.
No-Loss Connector: According to BS 9251:2021 and EN 16925:2018 a valve is required to enable the pressure gauge to be removed. The RiserTeQ No-Loss valve enables the user to safe removal by unscrewing a pressure gauge. It does not require a ball valve to be closed.
Accessory Port: A ½” Female BSP port is provided on the Residential Valve Sets for Pressure Switches or plumbed-in test and drain complete with Solenoid Valve. For example this port could be used by Packaged pump system providers.
Fire Sprinkler Test Valve Port: this test valve on the RiserTeQ manifolds is forged into the body to reduce any leak paths and also gives a true Full Bore Valve to commission and service the Fire Sprinkler system. The flow through this valve gives the possibility to test the Fire Sprinkler Flow Switch for its functionality, check there is suitable flow rate for the system design and also to check the alarm system is working correctly.
Ball Valve Monitor: For BS 9251:2021 and EN 169251:2018 it is a requirement on Cat 2, Cat 3 and Cat 4 systems to monitor the position of the main inlet ball valve. This is done by RiserTeQ with a mounted IP54 enclosure which houses a PCB. This RVM Residential valve monitor incorporates both the Fire Sprinkler Flow Switch signal and the Ball Valve Handle position. The monitor is to detect if the Sprinkler Riser Valve handle has moved once it’s been commissioned and locked. It then sends a signal to the Fire Sprinkler alarm panel to trigger that it has been tampered with.
Testing carried out on RiserTeQ fire sprinkler valve set designs complete with Water Flow Switch:
Dimensional CMM
Spectro analysis and chemical material testing
Burst pressure testing
Flow switch point testing
Flow Switch Pressure loss tests
Ingress protection testing giving IP54 rating for the Ball Valve Monitor
Riser Manifolds 100% working pressure tested
Fire Sprinkler Flow Switches 100% tested according to ISO 9001
